Here we have an absolutely stunning carved Meerschaum pipe in the shape of a dog's head. Made by C Crop of London around 1880, it is in very nice condition - the carving is unmarked, although there is some chipping around the edge of the rim. Stem is present - it is a push-fit type with a cork end to hold it into the meerschaum, and the cork is a little worn meaning the fit is not as tight as it might be, but it is still serviceable. The pipe is marked on both sides 'Rd No 123647', nex...t to which on one side it is marked 'C.Crop' and on the other 'London'. The carving is very well executed and a remarkable likeness. The pipe has been smoked and as a consequence the meerschaum has a lovely hue as you can see in the pictures.
