19th Century Heavy Sterling Chalices -

You are bidding on a pair of .950 sterling chalices. I have bought and sold a number of chalices over the years, and if there is a pair it is usually the chalice and ciborium. I don't recall seeing another matched pair (unless they were new), so it must be uncommon. Both chalices are in good condition with expected small bruises for age (the lean is just in the picture). There are no monograms, dedications or removals. Chalice 1 does have an older repair to the threads under the cup (...see picture), and chalice 2 does have some wear though underneath the foot from use (see picture). The chalices are unmarked in terms of silver content, but they were tested with a Nitron XL2 analyzer for specific content. Both tested as silver, the results below. The analyses of the cups is a little misleading apparently because the thickness of the gilding indicates a high level of gold - the cups are gilded silver (an analysis with a different maching confirmed more limited gold and higher silver content). The chalices are 10 1/4 inches tall. They do have a plate across the bottom of the foot, but they are not weighted. We typically do not polish our silver items since the amount of oxidation and shine is a personal preference – the item will need to be cleaned. Will sell with no reserve.
