You are bidding on a vintage Hancock model 4700 locomotive air whistle horn. This unique 3 chime whistle came from the Modesto & Empire Traction and was last used on their General Electric 70 ton locomotives. This whistle was traded from the railroad when the 70 tonners were retired and replaced with the current genset locomotives. It has been in my personal collection and well taken care of since. This whistle is in great shape. It has been completely disassembled, cleaned, painte...d, reassembled with antiseeze on all threads, and tested. It will come apart easily if you wish to repaint it. Made of cast aluminum, cast iron, and cast bronze/brass. Measures about 17" wide, 16" long, and 12" tall. Uses a 1/2" NPT air inlet and standard 4 bolt pattern like Nathan Airchime and Leslie Supertyfon horns.This whistle most likely came from the Santa Maria Valley railroad and was on the locomotive when the M&ET bought it. I can find a few pictures of it installed on the 604. These are hard to find as not many were made. Major users of this type of whistle were the Pennsylvania Railroad, New York Central, and the New Haven. They make a very unique sound for sure.Local pickup is preferred due to the weight and size of the horn, weighs 35 lbs alone and with packaging will weigh close to 40-40 pounds.
