Please be sure to review all my other auctions after you have looked at this one! I will be listing a broad and diverse range of vintage communications and technology items, related books, periodicals and ephemera... Something for everyone! This is something that you will never see again. It is a four point, Chicago Radio Laboratory Hy-Rad Rotary Gap in excellent condition!!CRL organized by R.H.G. Mathews 9ZN right after WWI, is well known for its excellent, and sometimes ...exotic, amateur radio gear. One such product was their Hy-Rad Rotary Gap of very robust construction. These Gaps were generally made in four configurations: four, six, eight and ten point. Generally, you see the six point advertised in QST and other publications, and you see the eight point configuration in the company catalogs after 1919 (for example, J-20). However, they would make special discs on order as indicated in their product catalogs. The earlier Gaps were provided with aluminum or zinc stationary electrodes, and by 1920, CRL engineers determined copper stationary electrodes were best for low gap resistance. I have only seen one other Hy-Rad Gap in over 40 years of collecting!! That was an eight point Hy-Rad which I used to own and sold on eBay to a collector in California several years ago. I found it in Chicago at one of the hamfests... This Disc is made of machined aluminum, measures 9" tip-to-tip and is one inch thick. The center is made from a heavy Bakelite wheel and fitted with the proper mounting gear for the motor drive shaft. The Reynolds drive motor is substantial!I really hate to let this go because, at my age, I 'll probably never see another! But, that is to your benefit! Put this remarkable rotary gap on your shelf...or match it up in the basement with a nice transformer and glass plate condenser and smell some ozone...:)If you have any questions, please ask! I took good pictures that fairly represent the condition of this extraordinary piece!!Shipping weight will be about 25 pounds!!I will pack all items properly and with great care.
