Here is one of the nicest, early, Southern Plains paint bag that you will ever see! This is a great piece for the serious collector. It measures approx. 2 3/4'' wide and about 10'' long - ca. 1870 - 1885. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this beautiful bag is from the Southern Cheyenne or the Kiowa, but this is only a guess. All of the construction and beadwork appears to be in sinew. I believe the bag is made from deer. The hide is still supple and in excellent condit...ion with no hard spots or tears. It looks like the two hide tie thongs with the tin cone drops were beaded with thread, although one of them is missing, but you can see where it was. Note the red stroud cloth under the beadwork on the one beaded drop. The only other place that there are any beads missing that I can see is on the edge beaded tabs around the opening. The beads are very small and it doesn't look like there has ever been any beads repaired or replaced. Also it feels like there is still some vermilion paint in the bag. If you want to own the very best material, here is your chance. It just doesn't get any better then this. We are getting up in years and its time to start letting someone else enjoy the things that we have enjoyed all these years. Anyone who has bought from us before know the quality of material that we have. We never use a reserve because this great little bag will sell on its own merit.
