Summer is upon us and we are all looking forward to having a nice vacation and recharging our batteries, so to speak. So, for the next few weeks, we are going to be listing lots of stuff, in an effort to "clear the decks" and reduce our inventory. Then, it's off to see the world and enjoy life before the fall selling season begins. You will thus have a great opportunity to acquire some fine items at bargain prices.
ZONOPHONES were products of the Uni...versal Talking Machine Company, starting in 1898, which survived as an independent manufacturer until 1904, when they were bought out by Victor. They are prized by collectors for their distinct features and comparative rarity.
ZONOPHONE "CONCERT GRAND" PHONOGRAPH
This is a comparatively rare back-mount Zonophone, made later in their history before Victor ended the nameplate entirely. It probably dates to about 1905, and is known as a "Concert Grand".
The dark oak case measures 15" x 12". It displays the original finish and original decals. The bottom of the case has a small hole, shown in the pictures, nothing that affects it's outward appearance, functionality or sound.
Fitted with the original Zonophone back bracket, tapered tone arm and Zonophone reproducer. The winding crank and rear bracket support mounting bolts appear to be later replacements.
The magnificent brass horn measures 16" diameter x 25" long. It was recently polished and lacquered and looks stunning.
The original turntable is 9" diameter, but will easily accommodate your 10" or 12" records. The bedplate is original, and showing losses to the nickel, as expected after 110+ years. The brake works fine, the motor runs smoothly and quietly, and will play through your records with ease.
So, there you have it, a fine machine, highly original, and showing the affects of age, as it should.
