LITTLEST! ANTIQUE STEIFF BULLDOG BUSTER BROWN'S "TIGE" PRODUCED c.1907 TO 1917. THIS IS STEIFF'S VERSION INSPIRED FROM THE FAMOUS CARTOON OF THE PERIOD, WHICH CAME INTO PRODUCTION IN FIVE SIZES AND FIRST APPEARED IN THEIR 1908 CATALOG. (This littlest example is fairly rare and hard to find); and according to the book (Steiff Sortiment 1892-1943) (ISBN 3-9804712-3-3) page51, this was the smallest "TIGE" they produced and measured (17cm or 6.9 inches) in terms of ...the (body length only); from the chest to the back end; and did not include the head or tail in the measurement. Please see the two photos that compare the head size between this little one, against a much larger version of "TIGE", when they are placed next to each other. PLEASE NOTE: (The larger "TIGE" is NOT part of the auction); it is there for comparison purposes ONLY.They were made of brown short-pile plush with a dense off-white mohair fabric across the chest as well as on their two front feet. The facial wrinkles are indicated using an air brush technique to apply to the fabric's surface. The nose, mouth and claws are embroidered features, he has shoe button eyes; and is fully jointed five ways. He no longer sports his button however. Over all this rare little"TIGE" is in good, clean, sound condition, though he still does show wear from age and play over time. The once off-white mohair is now yellowed from oxidation and is thinned out a bit on his two front feet, one more than the other. With this in mind, he still is quite a beauty and again, this tiny size is rare to find and worth your consideration in placing a bid.
