Old Vintage Antique 4/4 French violin Medio Fino JTL for restoration, #1321
For sale is a full sized violin for restoration. Over the next several months I will be listing some restorable and repairable violins in my eBay store. Most, like this one, are European shop violins of good quality from the period 1870-1920. Occasionally I will list one that is playable as is. I'm selling these because I must continue to downsize my operation. As the descriptions and photos indicate, so...me will require extensive restoration; others need little or no more than set-up; and the rest lie somewhere in between. Workmanship on this shop violin is good. The violin is labeled Medio Fino and JTL (Jerome Thibouville-Lamy) (see pics). The overall length of the violin is 23". The two-piece maple back measures 14" long, 8 1/8" across at the lower bout, and 6 1/2" across at the upper bout. The one-piece spruce top is narrow-grained. Purfling is inlaid and well done. Blocked in all 4 corners and fully lined. No bassbar or soundpost cracks. The only crack is a scarcely visible hairline crack extending upward from the saddle about 1" and is stable. No rib cracks or separations. Original finish is in very good condition with a few scratches from wear (see pics). Neck, fingerboard and peg box are solid. A soundpost is standing inside.
