Ott - Coradi Polar Planimeter, Ca. 1877

From 1874 until 1880, Albert Ott and Gottlieb Coradi were partners in a business named Mathematical-Mechanical Institute Ott & Coradi, in Kempten, Bavaria. This planimeter would have been made during that time, before Coradi left to form his own company in Zurich, Switzerland in 1880. If I am interpreting the markings correctly, this planimeter is a type 8, serial number 102. I do not know what the “18, 27” marking on both the frame and weight means. The... design of the frame around the recording mechanism is somewhat reminiscent of Stark & Kammerer, where Coradi had previously worked.
This planimeter is in remarkably nice condition for its age. The plate that goes underneath the weight, which originally had two sharp points to stick in your drawing, now only has one point. Other than that, and an overall patina of age and light wear, there is nothing wrong with this planimeter. The box has no latches, only a lock, and we do not have the key.
