This is an early Siemens & Halske spoon telephone receiver that is well marked on the wooden receiver face plate. Siemens and Halske is a German electrical engineering company in the 1870’s. After the invention of the telephone and since Bell did no patent the telephone in Germany, Werner von Siemens made improvements in Bell’s invention and began manufacturing telephones. The handle is an iron ...magnet with a wooden center. The cord goes through the iron magnet inside a bakelite sleeve. The receiver has a wooden ear cap that is marked “Siemens & Halske A. G. “. There is a large eyelet on the top of the receiver and a fancy fixed hook to hang the receiver on the telephone. The receiver diameter is 4 inches. The receiver is 7 ¾” tall.
This is an excellent museum quality example of a very early and rare telephone instrument.
