H Kolberg iSka 6x30 Polish Military Binoculars with range-finding reticleserial number 23588 (1929). In 1918 Poland became anindependent sovereign country once more and with this a requirement forhome-produced military equipment. In October 1921 the firm of “H.Kolberg i Ska” (“ H. Kolberg Co Ltd”) wasestablished in Warsaw by Leon Malecki, Henryk Kolberg and Kazimierz KarolMieszczaoski. In 1924 production started of the binoculars of the type here for sale which were state ...of the art for their era incorporating all the latest advances in military optics. The “H. Kolberg” brand continueduntil 1931, when the factory changed its name to the very well-known PZO “PolskieZaklady Optyczne” (Polish Optical Factory). Forthe full story of these historic glasses, please read Anna Vacani MA’sexcellent history (Google “H Kolberg iSka binoculars” for downloadable pdf version). The detailed close-upphotos give a good idea of the sound original condition of these particularglasses. The letters “WP” to the right of the company logo on the left prismplate stand for “Wojsko Polskie” (Polish Army) and justvisible to the left of the model type on the right plate is the Polish Eagle. The only real damage is a chip out of the left right bakelite eyecup. Alsothere are surface scratches to the lenses, typical of military types and also very strongevidence that these binoculars were used in action, probably in the Polish Army’sheroic stand against German and Soviet invaders in 1939. The lenses and prismsare otherwise free from chips or cracks and internally the glasses are veryclear, no fungus or dust and with just a little light haze, only visible on reverseviewing. The actual image is very clear and bright, nicely collimated and withsmooth individual focusing. The large range-finding reticle is very clear in theright optics, having fifty vertical and twenty horizontal gradations. It was notpossible to photograph the actual reticle but an image of a similar one is included inthe photos. There is no case but a new black velvet drawstring bag will be includedin the sale to protect the binoculars and for them to be stored in. An interestinghistoric glass from an epic era in the history of Poland. The binoculars will be very carefully packed in a strong oversize boxwith plenty of soft infill.
