An original letter that belonged to a Marine named Clarence E. Sutton. This Marine won the Medal of Honor for his conduct during the Boxer Rebellion in China. This is a letter written by him. It is dated during the year of the Spanish-American War, 1902. In one area he says, ..........The "Medal of Honor" which I won in China and was awarded me by Congress is the one you see on my breast (in uniform) the butto...n you see on the collar is the insignia of the "Medal of Honor" and can be worn on undress uniform or civilian's clothes. As in England the highest honor one can be given for bravery is the "Victoria Cross" so in our country stands the "Medal of Honor". I suppose you will think I am extravagant in having these pictures taken but I got them at half price...................... The pictures he mentions in the letter are not included with this letter.I currently have other items listed that belonged to Clarence Sutton including papers that say he rescued famous Marine Smedley D.
