An original letter that belonged to a Marine named Clarence E. Sutton. This Marine won the Medal of Honor for his conduct during the Boxer Rebellion in China. This is a printed or typed letter. It is dated during the Boxer Rebellion, July 26, 1900 Tientsin, China. In on area it says, .......the statement accidentally omitted that Sergeant Clarence E. Sutton......behaved himself with especial gallantry on the firing line a...nd in volunteering with 1st Lieut. Henry Leonard to bring in 1st Lieut. S.D. Butler, Commanding Company "A" who had been badly wounded and was in great danger. This work he successfuly accomplished and I respectfully recommend him for promotion.................... In one area it says, (A true copy)This letter is making reference to Smedley D. Butler who was a Marine who won the Medal of honor twice, and was believed to have prevented a coup against President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and later wrote an anti-war book titled, War Is A Racket.I currently have other items listed that belonged to Clarence Sutton. The letter has wear and stain marks.
