Up for bid is an Antique American Police Helmet, Hat Badge & Tassel from the late 1800's to early 1900's. Considering it's age, I think it's in outstanding condition. Exterior wise what I can see is an air hole grommet missing, some discoloration on the tassel that may or may not be able to be cleaned up and some wear around the outer, I think, leather edging. You can see where the officer always grabbed to put on or take off the hat by the distinct wear mark... which is pretty cool in itself. Interior wise if there was a liner there isn't anymore. For lack of a better term, the hat band does not wrap all the way around on the inner diameter of the helmet. Cloth is torn up in the back of the helmet. Also, a distinct wear mark where the officer always grabber to put on or take off helmet. No markings or words on the helmet so I'm not sure what size. Hat badge looks very nice. It's dull right now but I don't see any pitting or marks on it so it'd probably shine right up if you wanted it too. I tried it on my big melon and it seemed pretty small so I'm going to guess in the size 7 range. Item was purchased from the Milwaukee area. This is certainly one of the more interesting pieces I've purchased and I can't imagine much better specimens out there.
