Description: Up for bids is a rare 1792 hand engraved Washington Indian peace medal.
Our consignor believes this to be genuine and not a reproduction.
These medals were given to the leaders of North American Indian tribes as gifts symbolizing peace and the aim of the U.S government to further diplomacy with the tribes. The reverse side shows the Great Seal and the obverse displays an Indian man wearing a headdress, dropping his tomahawk while receiveing a pipe of peace from the figure of George Washington. We believe this medal is made out of silver. Most of the beads have chips. The medal is in very good overall condition as seen on images. Please look at our detailed pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
