About The Neyret Freres Company:
Neyret Freres Company was a big name weaver of silk tapestries in France. M. Antoine Bizaillon founded a ribbon factory in 1825, which was sold to his nephew and coworker, Jean-Baptiste Neyret (1825-1889), when he decided to retire. Neyret decided to enlarge his business by making trademarked ribbons to be used by manufacturers on their clothing, making ribbons for official decorations and eventually images originally created by artists such as Paul Tavernier, Jacques-Louis David, Rosa Bonheur, Jean Leon Gerome and many others.
Best known for their woven silk interpretations of whimsical paintings in black and white with shades of grey and occasional accents of color, Neyret Freres made tapestries that were meant to resemble photographs. They were very much like Stevengraphs, which were produced up until the 1940's in England.
