Here is a very "Rare & Unusual" piece of U.S. Mail Americana History that probably belongs in a museum. I've sought out & collected pieces like this because I am a 35 year retiree of the U.S. Postal Service. But now it's time for someone else to enjoy & display it. It is a wooden & metal handmade Rural Carrier Cash & Forms Box that a Rural Carrier would carry on the route to make their job a little more organized & easier since speed was always of the essence wh...en it came to delivering the mail. There are no markings on it to let one know if it was made by the Rural Carrier who used it himself or someone made it for him, but it is definitely a one of a kind piece probably made by a veteran carrier who knew exactly what features he needed to do his job. There are slots inside the big covered door to hold forms. a hole in the smaller door where you would drop coins into a metal bottom tray & also a couple of slots for dollar bills, a metal forms slot on the bottom, a metal spring snap on the top to hold forms, & a metal carrying handle. I would guess that this Cash/Forms Box was probably from the 1930's through the 1950's. The box itself is approximately 15" long, 5" tall & 6.25" wide. It is in vintage used condition with normal patina & wear, tear, & wood/stain loss associated with age & use. Again, this probably belongs in a museum but I am making it available to individual collectors. Payment is by Pay Pal with Calculated Priority Mail Shipping. Please see all pictures for condition & ask questions because this item is being sold "as is". All returns are at the buyers expense for shipping plus a 20% restocking fee.
