Up for auction is a rare vellum medieval manuscript Bible leaf in Latin, English origin, tiny gothic script, circa 1270. There are several large blue initials with extending red penwork. The recto contains text from the end of the book of Amos (chapters 8 & 9). The verso contains the prologue to the Book of Obadiah (called "Abdias" in Latin Vulgate) and then the text of Obadiah begins with the large blue "V" initial at the top of the 2nd column. The book of... Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, with a mere 21 verses! The leaf measures approx. 7 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches and is in very good condition despite a light brown stain that extends approx. 1 1/2 inches from the top of the leaf.
