I purchased this German broadsword from a UK collector in 2005. He was selling his large collection at that time, of items mostly acquired from London auction houses or other reputable sources during the 1960's - 1980's.
It dates from around 1550, has a 28 3/4 inch (73 cm) broad double edged blade and an iron hilt with early form straight cross guard and rounded pommel. The grip is leather.
Swords of this type were made to be used wearing armour and against another fighter in arm...our. It has the ability to cut thin armour plate and can be thrust between the plates for a kill. Condition is good with no play.
