For sale is an all original non-restored example of a Victorian period dress dirk was would have been worn by Officers of the 79th / Queens Own Cameron Highlanders with their full dress uniform. While I'm fairly knowledgeable in this general area, I'm no expert, so please make efforts to research more about the dirks worn by the 79th Cameron Highlanders. The blade is approximately 30 cm long double fuller blade with facet edge back. The blade is engraved with ...the VR crown, regimental badge and battle honours of the 79th. The name of the well known military outfitters "J.B. Johnstone London & Dublin" is also marked on the blade. Ebonised carved wood basket weave baluster is set with brass studs above a gilt plate decorated with thistle and oak leaf patterns, while the rear of the pommel features crossed broad-swords behind a carved feather bonnet motif. The original leather scabbard is fitted with and series of ornately decorated gilt mounts the upper most one of which features the regimental numbers of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, "79". The matching knife and fork set are still present and in an excellent state of preserve. The upper pommel stone looks to have been reset at some time which may have affected the reflective colouration of the foil backing. Blade has a few light surface scratches and some very subtle blemishes. That said this is clearly an authentic piece. The spring-loaded clips on the knife and fork are still in excellent order. I believe the images speak for themselves. I'm willing to send more if you have specific questions. Total length when sheathed 43 cm or about 17". Weighs 600 grams. This is dirk comes from what was an almost complete full dress uniform grouping most of which is also for sale at this time on ebay so please check my other auctions as many hard to find related items of regalia are also available. Please note i will only ship by a method that includes a tracking number.
