This is for a fabulous little silver and shagreen Georgian travelling writing compendium from the late 1700s. It is a really well preserved example and is complete inside too. The outside of the box is covered in very fine grained shagreen, it has a silver frame and fittings and inside it is lined in soft burgundy plush, all of which is totally original to the box. Once opened you can remove all contents, both wells and all the tools. The little porte crayon/pen at the back will take a...ny of the two nibs, little quill trimmer or ink eraser, they all have little screw fitting and simply screw into the back of the porte crayon, the porte crayon is a simple slide out holder it would have originally held a piece of wad, thick black lead, but there is a little pencil fitted at the moment, they both just push in so you can fit what you like. The little Glass seal has a detailed intaglio of a gentleman in profile, who he is i dont know, possibly the original owner of this beautiful little box. The two silver topped inkwells are crystal clear and cut really nicely, everything about the box is as you would want it, the shagreen is super clean, the framework not dinged or dented, the plush still clean, the lid and base line up and open and close perfectly and everything inside is complete and in order. This box measures 67mm x 37mm and it stands 44mm tall.
