It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Nice 1938 HEDDON No.10 "BLUE WATERS" 9', 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG & LABELED FIBER TUBE. Always nice to find in the original complete package. The popular and affordable No.10 "Blue Waters" was introduced in 1934 and would sell until the end of production after the 1952 season. Because this example is equipped with the nickel silver screw-locking reel seat (used only in 1938 and 1939) and is wrapped in maroon ...and green (last used in 1938), we know this to be a one-year model made only in 1938. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten "Heddon" diagonally along three flats and "#10" on a single flat, just above the winding check. The reel seat is stamped "PAT.", for the 1927 patent assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking seat. Built on a No.2-1/2 ferrule (19/64), making this a very versatile 6-7 wt. model for virtually all freshwater game fish. Made with nice brown tone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, agatine stripping guide, (11) Tungsten steel guides, hardened tip tops, nickel silver welted & serrated ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, exposed winding check, nickel silver screw-locking "Hold-Tite" reel seat, solid cork grip and wound in maroon silk tipped in green. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1938 catalog. Rod is in Fine to Very Fine condition, showing only light wear. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. Varnish is new and is in great condition. Rod shaft markings remain nice. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, hook keeper and winding check are very fine. Reel seat works perfectly and remains in fine condition, with bold stamping. Solid cork grip is superb, with no ridging. Ready to fish or to enhance one's collection. Put up in the original bag, in very nice condition. Still carries the full original red and white "Dowagiac Rod" inspection tag, which is correctly marked for the rod. All this goes into the original fiber tube, also in excellent condition for these. Carries about a 90% complete paper tube label that is also correctly marked for this rod. A very nice pre-war package from James Heddon's Sons, all original and complete. To be sold with a very modest starting bid and NO RESERVE. Buyer to pay $19.00 shipping via U.S. Priority Mail, with full insurance and tracking. Payment must be received within 5 days of auction closure. Thanks for your time and good luck.
