1903 Antique, authentic Marble Safety Axe Co. M. S. A. Co. GLADSTONE, MICH. U. S. A. Safety folder Hunting Knife with black hard rubber ( bakelite) handles with original dark brown leather sheath in good used condition from 1903. I am not a knife person, please ask any questions. It is 10" long , blade 4.5" long, 5.5" closed , no nicks on blade edge, I have not cleaned it , looks like it has never been sharpened. The folding blade cover is stamped PAT. ALLOWED .Handle m...arked on both sides as shown, knife marked MSA CO. GLADSTONE, MICH.USA. I have been careful to keep fingerprints off the blade while in my possession but cannot say how it was handled prior. This knife was invented and patented by Milton H. Rowland of Gladstone, Michigan, and the patent assigned to partners Webster L. Marble and Frank H. Van Cleve of the M.S.A. Co. Rowland applied for a patent July 23, 1902, and U.S. Patent 728, 416 issued May 19, 1903. Some time before formal issue, the patent was "Allowed" by the U.S. Patent Office -- as marked on this knife.
