Winchester has had a Church for approx 1500 yrs.In 1896 the Roof of the 11th Century Cathedral was replaced.To help pay for this the Dean decided to sell Trinkets made from the Ancient Wood.The back has a faint Official Stamp WM Furneaux Dean of Winchester.Large piece of Oak turned and carved from the Nave roof of the 1086 Cathedral. 32 cms diameter (12.5ins) 2cms thick, thinner at plate like rim.Weight 910 grams.Sits solidly flat.Extremely well carved with a Scroll.The board has ...not been waxed, with an unstained even colour.Been used a lot with wear cuts to the scrolling..Small losses around the rim, more at the Coat of Arms.The 2 adjacent cracks across the board are causing slight movement yet are stable and go opposite to each other.The oak is over 900 years old and the wood is brittle and with the thinner rim has this weak point.Unusually large and well carved piece of Winchester Cathedral Genuine Treen.
