This is for a rare old tool, its a John Wilkes Patent pen nibber, you can read all about them on page 128 of Western writing Implements. It is a tool for making a fresh cut to the end of a cut quill pen. The tool is basically a miniature guillotine, so when the end of your quill was beginning to wear you placed the tip into the little hole and it made a fresh cut. The body of it has a finger hole to enable you to hold it and on the very base there is a little wafer seal. The nibber is ...marked around the front 'Wilkes Patent - Sold 57 Cornhill LondonThere are incredibly rare to find, I have had two in all the time I have been selling writing bits, this is the second. It is in absolute excellent condition too with no damage to it anywhere, there is a little hairline in the button on the top...but that's all...its absolutely as good as you will find (well not find). It measures 68mm tall.
