DIRK VAN ERP BOX WITH DECORATIVE ARTS AND CRAFTS BORDER ON THE LID
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:36499 |
This is an auction for a hammered copper box by the San Francisco Arts and Crafts workshop and studio of Dirk van Erp dating from 1915-1929 when van Erp senior still headed the copper work there. It measures 6"W x 4"D x 2"H and is in excellent original condition. The lid of the box has additional decoration which consists of a band which goes around the middle of all four sides of the top which consists of three different kinds of hammering.... In traditional Arts and Crafts economical design, the lid is formed with an extended arc at its front which makes opening and closing it a simple matter. It is joined to the body of the box with a heavy band of soldered and hinged copper for strength and durability. These images were taken under a Handel lamp. The box has its original dark patina which as a consequence of the lighting appears lighter in the photographs than it is in reality. Its true color is a medium dark brown.
