Antique Country Store Oak Ribbon Display Cabinet - Some Delivery Available
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:35362 | Maker: Ribbon Display Cabinet |
Offered here is an 8 door, oak ribbon case that originally... would have been used in an old general store or haberdashery. These came in many different sizes, from floor models to wall units. This one is a more desirable size, not being quite as tall as some. These were an ingenious way for merchants to display their spools of ribbon, protecting them from dirt and dust while also tantalizing customers with the brightly colored ribbons for sale. (When these cabinets are outfitted with ribbons, they really do make the cabinet stand out!)
This ribbon cabinet has four compartments on two sides and the doors tilt downward to gain access. There are wooden "cradles" constructed inside the doors to hold the variously sized spools. These display cabinets also work well for other things: most commonly today wine connoisseurs are using them to showcase and house their special stock. Dealers/collectors of antique advertising rolling pins also prefer to use ribbon cases for a great means of display and protection.
This cabinet measures 28 1/2" W x 14" D (Base) x 26 1/2" T. It has simple lines and nice molding along both the top and bottom edge. No manufacturer label or stamp found, but most were made by the A. N. Russell & Sons Company out of NY. It is in very good condition, clean with nice graining, but it does show some evidence of its age: some glass and rods have been replaced; one door sticks a little when closing. There is a slight warp to the top. It is a lovely cabinet that would add to any decor, home or business.
Please review all the pictures as they are an integral part of the description. Antiques by their very nature are not perfect and will show signs of wear, age, imperfections, and character (which make them unique - not massed produced)! Also, this antique ribbon case is being offered for sale at a local antique mall, so we reserve the right to end the auction early.
