Up for auction is a desk set item made by Tiffany Studios of New York. The item is a "Postage Scale" and it is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The finish is a gold overlay of pine needles against a caramel ground. The postage scale stands approximately 3" in height. The round platform on the top is where you would have put the envelope to be weighed. The front has a postage scale label with its weight measures and rates. It is marked Crescent and has dates of Jan...uary 1896-1899 in the lower portion of the "face" The mechanism was made by Crescent but the etched pattern and metal along with the finish was done by Tiffany Studios. This Postage Scale is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or chips to any of the glass. The only issues is the finish which has significant wear but I would not touch it (although there are reputable restorers) because once you get into restoring the finish, especially on gold pieces, your entire set needs to be done and even after all of these years of restorers perfecting their trade, it is still too shiny for me. This is all considered minor and does not take away from the piece. The Postage scale is signed on the bottom underside with the "Tiffany Studios New York" impressed mark along with the pattern number "872".This piece was part of the Tiffany Studios Fancy Goods line. This Postage scale was made circa 1903-1910. Terms: Buyer prepays item, plus shipping and insurance. We acceptPayPal, Credit Cards, and payment upon pickup for local customers.
