RARE ANTIQUE LIQUOR WAX SEAL SET ~ JOHN MITCHELL * ST ANDREWS * WHISKY + 4 MORE INSERTS
Being offered today is a unique antique wax seal stamp set with interchangeable center inserts believed to date to the early 1900's. The outer ring of the stamp reads "JOHN MITCHELL * St ANDREWS * ", with the inner brass plug reading "WHISKY". The wood handle screws apart to reveal a compartment holding brass inserts with 4 four additional liquor types: RUM, PORT, BRANDY and SHERRY. In r...esearching the item I was unable to find any information regarding company history, possibly a small distiller or distributor of the past.
The stamp is in very nice overall condition with only light wear considering age. The brass seal is very tight and all inserts fit snuggly as they should. The two-part handle is made of an ebonized wood and has wooden threads that function nicely. The hollowed out portion of the handle has a few small chips. Please see photos.
