A Fine and Rare Miniature Striking & Repeating Carriage Clock by Drocourt of Paris c1875.
This rare clock is in superb original condition, the gilt brass cannallee case is in excellent condition as are all of the glass panels. The case is numbered 19503.
The white enamel dial with blued steel spade hands is also in excellent condition.
The 8 day movement is fully working, striking the hours and half hours on a blued steel gong. Repeating the hours at will with its ...original silvered escapement. With winding key.
The back plate is fully marked with the Drocourt poincon and numbered 19503.
The clock is complete with its original black leather travelling case which is stamped by the high class London retailer J.W.Benson, 25 Old Bond Street.
One of the photographs shows the clock stood alongside a standard sized corniche cased carriage clock.
This remarkable little clock measures just 9.5cms high (12.5cms with the handle raised) 7cms wide and 6cms deep.
Pierre & Alfred Drocourt were one of the top makers of carriage clocks in the mid to late Victorian period, having a factory at Saint-Nicolas-d’Ailermont in France, which was the most important town for carriage clock manufacture at the time. They also had premises in Paris at Rue Debelleyme 28 and Rue de Limoges.Pierre & Alfred Drocourt made superb carriage clocks that were often decorative and were awarded numerous medals at exhibitions, such as the Bronze Medal at Paris 1867, the Silver at Paris 1878 and the gold at Paris in 1889.The son, Alfred Drocourt, succeeded his father Pierre Drocourt sometime in the 1870s.
