Here is fantastic American Tall Case Clock made by Fredrick Wingate who worked in Augusta Maine in the early 1800's.  The clock  stands 89 inches tall to the top of the center finial, 17 inches wide and 9 inches deep. The clock has an 8 day time and strike brass movement that strikes the hours on a bell. The movement has recently been cleaned, oiled and new weight cables have been installed. The movement is in good running condition and is also a very good timekeeper. The clo...ck face has beautiful age cracks and has a seconds hand, calendar dial and a rocking ship at the top of the dial that rocks slowly back and forth with each swing of the pendulum. Rocking Ship clocks were often owned by wealthy ship captains and according to the folk legends of that time the Rocking Ship clocks were thought to bring the captain and crew good luck and a safe and prosperous journey but only if the loved ones at home keep the clock running and the ship rocking. The clock case has very nice proportions and is made of cherry with a dark mahogany finish. The glass in the hood door is original with the old putty holding in the door.
