Pendelton has been making blankets since the 1860s. Part of its business has always been directed to the American Indian trade, and Pendelton Blankets are dealt with at powwows and rendezvous- as acceptable as iron hatchets. The company does not "imitate" Indian art, but it does a wonderful job being consistent with it. This "Chief Joseph Pattern" is one of the most popular of the Pendelton Native American designs, a tribute to a master Nez Perce tactician and leader ...but during the difficult times of the last years of the 19th century. Described as a Robe, this is a suitable wearing blanket, but it can also be a blanket, a throw, and whatever else you use a blanket for.
