Presented is a superb quality antique 14 karat gold, diamond and pearl pin, for
the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. This was the first Greek-letter fraternal
organization for women, founded in 1870. The pin is shaped like the sorority's
emblem, a kite, decorated with white and black enamel and two stars set with
real diamonds. Surrounding the central kite shape is a border of real seed
pearls, with green stones at the four corners. The back of the pin is... engraved
with a presentation to Mary Garr of Tewksbury, dated 1899, for the University of
Vermont.
This piece is nitric acid tested and guaranteed 14 karat gold.
The pin is in great condition. The pearls and stones are all intact and in
good shape. The enamel has only the most minor abrasions, no losses. The clasp
functions well and closes securely.
The pin measures about 7/8 inch long and about 5/8 of an inch wide.
The pin weighs 3.4 grams.
