Up for auction is a Nice Piece of History = a CDV that pictures 'Myrtle Corbin' known as the "Four Legged Girl from Texas". Myrtle was born (in 1868) a dipygus which in her case the body formed normally from the waist up but below her waist she divided into two pelvises and four lower limbs resulting in two small legs dangling between her two fully developed legs. The girl's family quickly realized Myrtle's money making potential and got her into the sideshow circuit at age 13 with P. T. Barnum. This Early Photo shows her at a young age probably around the time she started with Barnum. The photographer is identified on the reverse as "J. R. Applegate".
The CDV measures right around 4 x 2.5 inches
I am not positive of the cards exact age but I am pretty sure it is from the late 1800's
The card is original and not a reprint.
The card is in pretty decent shape for it's age, It does have a small pinhole on its top middle border and displays some surface wear but still has a nice amount of gloss for it's age. The back of the card shows some toning and surface wear. And also it has no creasing at all.
