1/6 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE BOY w/ "BLACK HANDS, " CHILD LABOR, SHARP FOCUS, NO WIPES. OCCUPATIONAL, TEXTILE WORKER, DYE VATS IN COTTON MILL. This 1/6 plate daguerreotype is of a boy, likely 8 to 10 years old, who has "black hands" from working in one of New England's many textile mills. Of course, this was the mid-19th century, before child labor laws. This boy has a serious, defiant look on his face as he poses, clearly showing his dyed dark hands. The focus is sharp... and contrast is great. It has been resealed and there are no wipe marks. However, there are a series of tiny scratches located on the boy's left elbow. It comes in a half case.
