It’s not very often a badge was such an amazing historical narrative and proof of original owner comes on the market. This badge belonged originally to Sheriff William Emig when he was the deputy sheriff in Santa Clara County California in the early 19...30s. This badge comes with original paperwork appointing a Mr. Donaldson as the new deputy sheriff in Santa Clara County, replacing Emig as deputy. Just prior to the public lynching of two man suspected of kidnapping a local man, were dragged from the jail and lynched across the street. The sheriff tried to stop the Linchame but was overcome by the mob. 10 years later the same sheriff was arrested by Federal agents in a slot machine sting in California.
The paperwork explains that this badge was handed over by Mr. Emig to Deputy Sheriff Donaldson in 1932. This was three years before then notorious lynching...
