This rare bill of sale was issued two months prior to the start of the Civil War, February 11th, 1861 to W. L. Shepherd by Thomas A. Powell & Co. Brokers and Auctioneers in Montgomery, Alabama. The price paid was $1, 200 for "a Girl named Edy, about 15 years of age" and signed by Thomas A. Powell. 
This framed bill of sale was given to me by an elderly friend who passed away several years ago and who had inherited it along with many of her family's papers. On Aug-06-19... at 14:39:52 PDT, seller added the following information:Will ship anywhere or offer local pick up.On Aug-09-19 at 07:12:09 PDT, seller added the following information:Posting shows "Local pickup only", but I am willing to ship this item.
