for a detailed view. An exquisite leaf from a Paris, France, 13th Century Bible on Vellum. Folio dimensions are19.8x13.5cm. and Text block dimensions 13.5x8.7cm with two columns of text with 56 lines each. Historiated, inhabited and decorated initials. The running titles, flourished initials, and chapter divisions are in red and blue ink with a Gothic Textualos script. This particular leaf is from the Old Testament and The Book of The Prophet Hosea, Cha...pters 12-4, as well as the prologue to Hosea. A large lovely twelve line initial "V", in the right-hand column, is created with pink and blue ink as well as gold leaf. The initial contains a miniature of Hosea reconciling with his wife Gomer as God observes from above The Book of Hosea, from the Hebrew Bible, denounces the worship of gods other than Yahweh, metaphorically comparing Israel's abandonment of Yahweh to a woman, Gomer, being unfaithful to her husband, Hosea. God instructs Hosea to love and reconcile with Gomer several times before the reconciliation is permanent. . The left-hand column features a nine line initial "N", created with pink and blue ink as well as gold leaf and a six line initial "T", similarly adorned. The verso contains the same number of lines in two columns.There are three larger initials, an "I", an "E" as well as an "A", in alternating shades of blue and red with lovely pen work and flourishes also in alternating colors of blue and red, with rubrics in red.
