WELCOMETO SALLY’S DIARIES: Upfor auction is a stunning photo album that contains 109 originalblack and white photos and all of them have to do with the MajorCharles Fleming Aitken family of England. Charles was born about1892, was in the British Army during WWI, married Ruth (Peggy) HelenClarke in 1934 and they had one son, Peter Fleming Aitken who wasborn in 1935. Thealbum dates from 1912 (however there are a few photos earlier ofCharles when he was a child) and into 1937. Many ...of the photos haveto do with his time in the service. I found a military record forCharles on the web and it said he was with the Welsh/British serviceand part of the “Army India Horse” regiment. I had no idea whatthey were but found this out, and I quote….“TheCentral India Horse (21st King George V’s Own Horse) wasa regular cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army. They wereformed at the start of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and served in theGreat War and the Second World War.” Thereare also family photos including when their son was first born. Icould easily scan all of the photos as they are fabulous and most ofthem have handwritten identifications, some long ones. Here are someof those inscriptions…..“Charles, Blanche and Agnes with Bella a Norwegian maid….C.F.A. on the riverat Richmond about 1912, No. 3 Troop, A Squadron, Middlesex Horses.Sgt.
