A truly remarkable very solid, heavy metal casket like locking box. The wonderful relief decoration across all sides and lid feature decorative scenes portraying the story of Puss in Boots! The rgeal elegance of the box at first blush gives no clue to the whimsical nature of the theme, and indeed the solid, extremely sturdy construction of the box, beautifully made, also belies the nursery rhyme nature of its theme!This appears to be in cast steel given a gilt finish in places such as... the rims and corners however not across all areas such as the pictorial panels? A plush velvet lining survives in excellent condition.A small stamped mark to base is too fine to read clearly but may be a monogram? Note a latch has broken off the front of the lid so it doesn’t meet the lock at front, otherwise the box is complete and in excellent aged condition. Note one hinge pin has been replaced by improvised tack into each end. The lid sits slightly proud across the front edge as shown. The box is approx 17.5cm x 12cm x height 9.5cm.
