Splendid Circa 1930-50s Cast Brass Tortoise Shaped Desk Top Magnifying GlassThis splendid piece appears to date to the mid-20th century; say 1930s through 1950s. It is a desk top magnifying lens set in a cast brass body fashioned in the shape of a tortoise or turtle. It sits proud from the table top on four legs. Its head and tail are out of the shell and the are marking to emulate the animal’s shell home. Collectors can use it to examine stamps, photos or charts when its laid flat.... It shows good detail with good magnification. It can also be use in a conventional magnifying way when lifted and used to examine larger objects. When used this way its magnifying power is increased. It is in good antique condition; no damage or faults to report; a lovely warm patina.
