Description: An elegant satin wood box with red lacquer and gold leaf decoration. The base is highly carved on four sides with the "Two Dragons Chasing the Fiery Pearl" motif on the front, it has "Lion" legs. The base is finished in the original heavy gold leaf. The top compartments are carved with patterns and decorated also with gold leaf. The center compartment has a lid with wooden hinges... and a beautifully carved little lion on a pedestal as a pull to open it. There are also two small drawers with the original brass pulls. The construction is mortise and tenon joints, no nails as was all of the best Chinese woodworkers and cabinet makers.
There a three heavy brass containers for the betel leaf and the nut etc.
