Up for auction today is an Original Vintage Post-World War II Photo Album or Scrap Book from a US soldier stationed in Ft. Knox and then Japan. The album itself is a pretty standard scrap book of that era, measuring approx. 12 1/2" x 15 3/4". More than half the pages are used, with brochures, photos and postcards from around the Ft. Knox area on the first few pages - including things from Churchill Downs in 1946. There are patches and papers from the soldiers service and training, and ...photos taken from places he was stationed in Japan. This even includes a couple of snapshots of General MacArthur, pictures of guys he was stationed with, souvenir/tourist photos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and photos from various air fields or bases he was stationed at or visited while there. There are also a few loose items, like Ft. Knox stationary and a program from the Ft. Knox theater, a letter of merit, and a couple of pieces of Japanese currency. What a cool glimpse into this G.I.'s life! I tried to capture as much of the contents of this album as I could with my pictures. There are a few pages with rough edges, which is pretty typical of the cheap paper used in these scrap books, and possibly some other typical wear and possible age discoloration.
