a early B.Pike &Son maybe a miners dip compass according to an older similar listing. pike and sons in business 1841 thru 1867 -----pike and son (no plural ) 1844----1849 so were gonna say this falls in that time frame in good cond. case has some damage as shown in pictures and compass has small dent on case does not affect this very sensitive unique older compass! early, rare, simply made shows it age compared to later models! lady i got this from said it had been in h...er family all these almost 180 yrs. so yeah a lil dust, a lil rust a ding or 2 but all there in good working order measures 7 inches across the case 6 inches across actual instrument and 1 & 1\2 inches thick in the box or 1inch out has a metal ring that encloses around outside of compass i assume to hang it on something to measure degrees of dip ?? we always offer 2 wks. $$ back you pay return insured shipping as sent. this piece should probably be in a museum somewhere but hey if this is your kinda thing you could own it email any questions or concerns, we'll try to answer, thanks for your interest but please refrain from making lowball offers as we feel our price to be reasonable!
