Item was fully restored by antique dealer who sells trade stimulators on eBay.In the 1930's most people smoked and used matches. So you're in your local restaurant or bar and run out of matches. You put a penny in this machine and pull the handle on lower right and get 2 matchbooks. But wait there's more! When you pull the handle the 2 dice are tossed and you can win a drink, sandwich or maybe a pack of cigarettes depending on the owner's offer. So you get... the matchbooks plus the chance to win something else. If you just want a light you can hold down the handle on the top right and an electric element is heated as shown in the 4th picture and you get your light. I suspect that many people just tried to win something rolling the dice but due to gambling laws at the time you had to get something in return so that it was technically not gambling. My father had a trade stimulator in his restaurants in the late '30's where you played for a pack of cigarettes. The matchbooks are loaded in the slots in the back and a key is included to get the money. It also comes with a long electric cord. Matchbooks are NOT included due to USPS hazard issues.
