Wonderful Antique Late 18th, Early 19th Century Rushlight Circa 1790-1840 Complete with Lathe Turned Wooden Base and a Candlecup Candleholder! One of the nicest examples of a period rushlight we've had in some time, and one that's been in the focal point of an early collection of American Primitives.Dating from the late 18th century to early/mid 19th century rushlight exhibits great character in the blacksmith formed design. As you can see the maker worked in a 'ram's horn' formation to the... ends of the rush holder, as well as creating a great candlecup, and even placing the subtle elements of twist designs on the arm of the piece. Please take a moment to view the individual images and you'll see you can see the the detail of this great early lighting device! The rushlight stands approximately 11" tall with a base diameter of 2 3/4". Similar to examples illustrated in numerous volumes on the topic of early lighting and period American antiques. Iron elements of the Rushlight have some slight pitting and oxidation as one would expect from age. Base underside has some markings were it was originally placed into a lathe.Certain to be a highlight of any Colonial/Country decorum or collection! We are pleased to be able to offer this splendid example of early American lighting on a Five Day no reserve auction.
Again a great piece of Early Lighting that would look lovely in a Period Colonial Era Home or Lighting Collection.
