Item History & Price

Notice the makers mark stamped on the top of the box "G. Tiemann N-York" and below that is stamped the patent date of August 20, 1846.
The form of this bleeder is most unusual- it features a long handle hardly seen in bleeders of this period!
This instrument is made nearly... entirely of brass, with a dark wood handle stem.
Take notice that the depth of the bleeder box is only 0.75"- much shallower than the 4" depth common to most bleeders of this time.
A pristine, unique example of early G.Tiemann surgical products. This instrument has exceptionally rare form, the likes of which we have not seen in our 30+ years of experience in the antique industry!

The cocking mechanism is activated by pulling out the handle, you can see the blades move into position and hear the mechanism clicking. We have not been able to get the trigger release to function, and we believe the spring is bad, easily replaced. The blades moves easily back into their unset position by pushing the trigger and handle back into position. The blade box has a knob that allows the depth of the box to changed from about 5/8" to 7/8". There are a total of 12 blades, approx 1/2" crescent shaped, all in excellent condition.
