Purchased directly from Stress Records via mail order somewhere between 1987-90. Rubber cement used to attach photocopied cover art and liner notes has yellowed. Small chip at top of back liner notes (see picture). Cassette case has a missing piece but still opens and functions perfectly. Tape has not been played for 25 years. A time capsule back to handmade, pre-internet music culture. Arguably Daniel’s best record. An article in Indiewire describes how we used to get our music...: "“I sent my three dollars off to a P.O. box in Austin, Texas to a place called Stress Records, and waited by my mailbox. One day these self-recorded, self-released, handmade cassette tape albums arrived. They were three dollars a pop. In recognition of the significant value of these tapes I will now be shipping this tape INSURED at my own expense. I have also ordered some protective cardboard cases to protect the tapes during shipping.
On Sep-19-19 at 09:48:33 PDT, seller added the following information:IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION: Until recently I thought these tapes were handmade and signed by Daniel Johnston (which was kind of the legend surrounding the tapes in the 1980s). I have since learned (directly from Daniel's manager, Jeff) that Jeff dubbed and labeled the cassettes. The "signed" midway through this listing is an accidental carryover from a previous listing that I canceled in order to more accurately represent these tapes. I eliminated all the other references to these tapes being signed, but missed that one.

If you have anydifficulty retracting a bid, please let me know. Daniel put a lot of positivityinto the world and it occurred to me that I had little pieces of his art thatshowed how special he was that were in a case in my basement not being used. Iwill check in with winning bidders to make sure that they have read thisclarification and still want to move forward. If they do not, the tapes will beauctioned again with language emphasizing that they are the original StressRecords releases, purchased by mail order and, based on what I have learned, dubbed and put together by Daniel’s manager, Jeff.
