31 xLondon theatre tickets, 1940s (WWII)I recently acquired acardboard box full of ephemera collected by a British soldier during the SecondWorld War. There was actually very little material of what you would callmilitary interest, but this chap had saved literally hundreds of paper itemsrelating to his service overseas. He was posted to a number of countries, serving with the Eighth Army in Tunisia and Algeria before taking part in theItalian Campaign. Towards the end of the war and f...or a short while afterwardshe served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His collection included postcardsand photographs; advice sheets and leaflets; unit newsletters; newspaperclippings; programmes for entertainment events; local cinema tickets; localrestaurant menus; and administrative notes and dockets of every kind. It alsoincluded three or four dozen travel tickets for local trains, buses and trams. The group consists of31 ticket stubs from London theatres. All but a couple are from West End theatres. The soldier to whom the tickets belonged was a married Londoner who wasstationed only just outside London during his training – so he probably gotmore opportunity than most to keep up his social life during his leave periods. All the ticket stubsare in clean, bright condition. They were all together in an envelope and hadprobably been there untouched for the past 70 years or so. Although only ahandful of the tickets are printed with the year of issue, those that are, carry wartime dates. I’m as sure as I can be that all the others are from the sameperiod.London theatresincluded are: the London Coliseum; Phoenix Theatre; the London Palladium; StollTheatre; Cambridge Theatre; Ambassadors Theatre; Lewisham Hippodrome; CambridgeTheatre; Savoy Theatre; Piccadilly Theatre; Princes Theatre; His Majesty’s Theatre;Saville Theatre; I am listing otheritems from this chap’s collection on eBay at the moment. Please click on SeeOther Items above if you would like to see what else there is.UK Postage and packing: £1.50International postage and packing: Postage charges to international destinationsare given below. Please also look carefully at the hi-res photos – they are part of thedescription. Thanks for your interest inthis auction and good luck if you decide to bid.Pleasenote: Iwill not respond to requests to close the auction early regardless of the valueof the offer made.
