(And please check out the other beautifulpots that I have on eBay.) Youare bidding on a sculptural form by the world renowned British ceramist Peter Hayes. (It was originally acquired in the 1990s atJames Graham & Sons Gallery on Madison Avenue in NYC- for many years thepre-eminent US dealer in British ceramic art.) DESCRIPTION: This intriguing work by Peter Hayes tapers asit rises from a swelled rounded bottom to a thin straight-edged top. Along the way one encounters anintriguing blend of smooth and rough textures in red-tinged gray and browntones that impart to the piece a sleekly modern aspect while, at the same time, evoking a long-ago ancient artifact. Araised blue and red circle (the result of iron and copper introduced into thefiring process) on one side near the top adds an iconic – perhaps even alien-aura to the sculpture. Thismaster work stands 10 7/8” tall and measures 6 1/2” at its widest. It is in pristine mint condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and is signed and dated (96) by the artist on the bottom. ABOUT PETER HAYES: Peter Hayes’ unique and, some might say, brazen approaches that he takes in creating his ceramic art include using claybodies that he knows will crack in the kiln and burying his pieces in riversbeds -sometimes for years- before digging them up and “rediscovering” themafter they have been acted upon by water and mud and changing weather conditionsover time.
